SAAC Receives Federal Grant
CMHA's SAAC is pleased to announce the award of $125,000 in Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant funds from the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The award is part of $76 million in DFC continuation grants awarded to agencies across the country that facilitate community participation in local youth drug prevention efforts, including prescription drug diversion initiatives and underage drinking prevention programs.

“I’m pleased that the Drug Free Communities program continues to recognize the great potential of SAAC to help keep our kids and our neighborhoods safe and substance-free,” said CMHA President & CEO Ray Gorman. “This funding will enable us to mobilize and organize the community to educate, prevent, and reduce drug and alcohol abuse.”

“Data show that community efforts to reduce youth substance use through the DFC program are effective,” said ONDCP Director Gil Kerlikowske.  “I commend coalitions like SAAC, who work tirelessly to prevent and reduce youth drug use.”

The Drug Free Communities program is directed by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  More information about the Drug-Free Communities Program is available here.
