Successful Prescription Drug Take Back! |
|
The Plymouth/Terryville Medication Take Back held on September 19 was a huge success. We took in nearly 6,000 medications, including nearly 300 abusable narcotics pills. The event, which was a collaboration between the Plymouth Local Prevention Council and SAAC, not only educated the community about the proper disposal of prescription and over-the-counter medications, but removed medications like oxycodone and vicodin that were not being used, but could end up diverted for illegal use.
Prescription medication abuse is one of the fastest growing substance abuse problems among our youth and young adults. Too often, young people "shop" for pills in home medicine cabinets with serious and potentially lethal consequences.
SAAC will hold a second Take Back on September 26 at the Harwinton Town Hall in collaboration with the Harwinton Recycling Office. For more information on Medication Take Backs or to schedule an event for your community, please call the SAAC office.
