SAAC Awards Scholarships

The Substance Abuse Action Council, a division of Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA), awarded scholarships to three local students for their outstanding commitment to substance abuse prevention. The recipients—Alyssa Mazzarella of Berlin, Alysha Winiarski of Bristol, and Andrew Devivo of Kensington— were honored at CMHA’s Annual Meeting of the Corporation on November 20 at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington.

Alyssa Mazzarella attended Berlin High School, where she participated in the “Upbeat” peer leadership and drug and alcohol prevention group. She now attends Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

Alysha Winiarski attended Bristol Central High School, where she volunteered for the Wheeler Clinic Prevention and Wellness program to encourage local children to make healthy choices. She attends Albertus Magnus College in New Haven.

DeVivo attended Berlin High School, where he also participated in the “Upbeat” program. He now attends College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts.
